The teaching of languages is increasingly an important factor in training for technology. The 21st century is defined by interconnection and language skills are a necessity to receive the full benefit of emerging technology. Language skills are often extremely useful in career promotion and for continued learning opportunities. Because many tutorials, manuals, FAQs, and screencasts are only in English, a students ability to be able to problem-solve is highly dependent on their language ability. These facts make language proficiency, particularly English, crucial to a non-native speaking student’s ability to be technology literate.
LABTECH has designed a LEARN Lab in order to meet the challenge of today’s language instruction. Teaching students to be fluent in conversations levels can be very difficult and time consuming- these language labs bring a powerful multimedia approach to language learning. They combine traditional audio approaches with modern ICT tools. This makes the training more interesting and also takes the learning to a higher level by adding relevancy and creating context for the students.
The LEARN Lab 1.0 can also be used as a classroom management system in a computer lab. The teacher has the ability to monitor every students’ screen at one time, share videos and other resources with the entire class at the click of a button, students can participate in safe, localized chat rooms, and students can be grouped for differentiated learning activities. The LEARN Lab 1.0 offers these features plus many more.
