The MySTL Catalyst School Program uses a three-component process which encompasses all aspects of ICT integration in schools through using a sustainable, student-centered approach. The three components are:

  • Technology Literacy Certification for students who meet the required standards
  • Student-Centered technology support to maintain infrastructure and support teachers’ ICT integration in the classroom
  • English language development as a component of technology literacy

The implementation of the program happens in the two phases  illustrated in the following graphic: The third component, English language development, happens throughout the process in either the students language class or the ICT class utilizing the LEARN Lab 1.0 software designed specifically to teach the English language using ICT tools.

First, in Phase One, the foundation of technology literacy, not technology skill development, must be instilled in students. This is achieved by using the project-based TechYES Evaluation method and sustained through a Peer Mentoring process which enables students to seek help from their peers as they construct projects and also provides the teachers with assistance during project evaluation.

Second, in Phase Two, the students who have now shown to be technologically literate begin to assist the teachers in bringing ICT out of the computer lab and moving it throughout the school. This is achieved by having a trouble ticket system where teachers may submit, online, any help they may need from a student. This Technology Assistance Project (TAP) is then assigned to a student by their ICT teacher. The student will then meet with the teacher to accomplish the required task.

Meticulous data is gathered throughout both of these processes which enable schools and Ministries to monitor how ICT is being used in a school, including, which teachers are using what technology and which computers are consistently in need of repair. Please download the document in the “Research” section of this website which details the kind of data gathered in this program.
